Creating Cool Comfort: Summer Bedding Tips for Your Dog

When temperatures rise, it’s not just humans who seek relief from the heat—our dogs do too. While many pet parents focus on hydration and walks during cooler hours, one often-overlooked factor is where your dog rests. The right bedding can make a big difference in helping your pet stay comfortable and well-rested through the summer months.

Why Summer Bedding Matters
Dogs can’t regulate their body temperature the same way we do. If their resting area is too warm, it can lead to poor sleep, overheating, and general discomfort. During hot weather, it's especially important to swap out heavy, heat-retaining beds for breathable, seasonally appropriate alternatives.

Look for Breathable Materials
Opt for bedding made from airy, moisture-wicking fabrics that allow for proper airflow. Beds with cotton or linen covers and lightweight fillings are ideal. Stay away from plush or overly insulated beds during the summer—they may be cozy in winter, but in summer they trap unnecessary heat.
Tip: Our Rest Bed and Suni Pillow and Mat are perfect low-profile options for warmer months. They provide a supportive base while staying light and cool. For a more structured lounging space, the Lying Bed offers raised edges with an open design, making it feel breezy while still cozy.

Choose an Elevated or Open Design
Beds that sit directly on the floor can absorb and retain heat, especially in rooms with limited airflow. Look for options with a slightly elevated base or a flatter, open style that encourages air circulation beneath and around your dog.

Keep It in a Shady, Cool Spot
No matter how breathable the bed is, location still matters. Place your dog’s summer bed in a shaded area of your home—ideally near a fan or where cross-breezes naturally flow. Avoid placing it directly next to windows that get intense sunlight throughout the day.

Swap and Rotate as Needed
Some dogs love variety—especially when it helps them find the coolest spot. Try having a couple of different bedding options in different rooms. You might notice your dog choosing one over the other based on the time of day and temperature.
